Love is in the air! And so is the opportunity to attract and delight your customers with some fun and light-hearted Valentine’s Day themes in your bar. If you haven’t started planning yet, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with these 5 last-minute ideas to get your bar the most bang for its buck this Valentine’s Day.
1.Make a music playlist:
Compile a playlist of all the songs that fit the mood. Weather you want to take the traditional love route, the anti-valentines, lonely hearts club approach, you will never be at a loss for fitting songs. (See our blog on creating the ultimate musical experience for even more tips on setting the mood with music.)
Here are some songs ideas to get your playlist moving in the right direction:
2. Advertise A Couples Dinner Special
Encourage people to spend their Valentine’s Day at your establishment by offering a dinner special to get them in the door.
This could be a two for one deal or a five- course meal for two for a set price. Plan Your food specials in accordance with the holiday. Chocolate, oysters, salmon, figs and pomegranates are known aphrodisiacs, try incorporating one or two of these into your Valentine’s Day Menu.
Use your bar or restaurant POS system to help you with inventory, recipe-building, and pricing.
3. Create a Valentine’s Day Cocktail or Drink Special
Create a signature cocktail for the evening, like this Cherry Martini:
- 1 Ounce Cherry Liquor
- 1 ½ Ounce Malibu Coconut Rum
- ½ Ounce Chocolate Vodka
- ½ Ounce Club Soda or Sparkling Water
- Garnish with cherry
Consider offering a wine or beer pairing. Find a wine and beer selection that complements your dinner special.
Many Breweries have Beers with names that could be incorporated into your festivities as well. Try out Magic Hat’s Stout called Heart of Darkness. A perfect anti-Valentine’s day featured Beer. (Which leads us to idea number 4).
4. Host an Anti-Valentine’s Day Celebration
Challenge the traditional Romantic Valentine’s Day norm, by having an anti-Valentine event. Give all your single patrons a reason to celebrate (or at least wallow with other humans)! Throw a “Love Stinks” Party, with a DJ playing songs about the torture of love (See playlist ideas) or host a “Lonely Hearts Club” singles mixer. Create an event on Facebook to get the word out.
5. Decorate the Place!
Simple touches go a long way when it comes to making your establishment feel more romantic and cozy. Hang some string lights from the ceiling and place candles on each of the tables to add a warm feel to the room and create some mood lighting. Make special place settings for the evening; try including red table cloths and perhaps a rose on each table. If you are trying to achieve a more relaxed vibe, leave paper hearts on each table. Instruct guests to write the name of someone or something they love on the heart and hang it on the wall. Or, if you’re hosting anti-Valentine’s festivities, maybe your guests will prefer to tear the hearts in half instead!
Getting your bar ready for Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a huge time or money investment. With a little creativity and even a little light-hearted humor, you can give your guests a night to remember.
